Measuring 26" long, this necklace is comprised of 33 hand-carved "knuckle bone" shaped beads, gently graduated in size. Most of the beads measure 1" x 5/8" each! All of the beads are carved from mutton-fat nephrite jade, and all are intact without cracks or chips. The beads all retain a high polish, and as they are hand-carved, each has minute differences. As can be seen in the photos, the jade also has excellent translucence! The beads are all carved uniformly, and they are perfectly matched for color.
Mutton fat nephrite jade is one of the most desirable and valuable of all shades of nephrite, and the beads on this necklace epitomize the finest of this shade! The beads are strung on sturdy cream-colored silk, with double knots between each bead. The necklace retains its original silver filigree box clasp, which is marked "SILVER/Made in China." The stringing appears original, and is in excellent condition.
In absolutely pristine condition after 80+ years, this necklace is wonderfully wearable, and the color is neutral enough to compliment any wardrobe! The beads feel wonderfully cool against the skin, and their knuckle-bone shape is a real bonus - one rarely sees jade beads of this design, although it was very popular during the first quarter of the 20th-century. This necklace weighs in at 113.7 grams (that's 4 ounces)!
This stunning example of Chinese nephrite jade jewelry is certain to please even the most discriminating collector. If you collect the best in fine nephrite jade jewelry, this necklace belongs around your neck and in your collection! Do not miss this Chinese beauty; it is priced for quick sale!
