Measuring 2 3/4" long x 1 1/4" wide x over 1/4" thick, this superb work of Chinese art is carved from medium green nephrite (not quite blue enough to call celadon). This carving is exquisite;the front features two creatures with lions heads with elongated, mythological bodies, and each sporting the tail of a Qilong. One of the beasts appears to be poised to attack!
The reverse of the jade is decorated profusely with ocean waves and whorles. The jade is carved for suspension, and would make a stellar pendant, or just a fine display piece! This jade is 100% guaranteed as described, and comes from the same distinguished collection as the 18th-century jade animal I sold last month. The detail and movement of this piece is just as marvelous!
This jade weighs 44.3 grams. It is in completely intact condition, with no breaks or repairs. The surface also shows a very nice patches of calcification on both sides. This is a highly-desirable, early jade work of art that will satisfy the most discriminating collector of antique jades!
If you love the finest in Chinese history or antique jade, this hand-carved marvel belongs in your collection! The details on the front are so complex; it looks MUCH nicer in person! It would also make a great holiday gift for any lady or gentleman fond of the best in Chinese jade art. Do not miss it!
