Dating to ca.100 AD, this fine and exceptionally large Roman intaglio is carved from deep orange-red carnelian, and depicts the standing figure of Fortuna Victrix, the Goddess of success in war! Most Roman-era intaglios are very small in size; this large example leads me to believe that it was the focal point of an important jewel almost 2000 years ago!
