It is 12 3/4”H.
I love the way the vine leafs wind upward to form the well-sculpted handle and continue to wrap around the neck extending over the rim. The additional gilt highlighting brings out the delicacy of the sculpture. Awesome!
There is a cluster of grapes on the both the front and backside of the neck. There is a very simple elegant painting on the back. The cherub on the front is very detailed, with very expressive eyes.
The pottery has been located in Rudolstadt, Thuringia, Germany, from 1720 to the present. Over the years, it was owned by a series of partnerships.
This particular mark was used by the New York and Rudolstadt Pottery. Lewis Straus & Sons of New York City owned half of the pottery and they were the sole importers of the pottery wares into the United States.
New York & Rudolstadt Pottery was in business Ca.1882-1918. This mark was registered in the German Trademark of Registry on May 2, 1896. (Reference: Directory of European Porcelain by Danckert, pages 397 and 668; and Marks on German, Bohemian, and Austrian Porcelain by Rontgen, page 134).
