Oil painting on board signed F. Roybet on the upper right corner. Portraits of cavaliers and musketeers are subjects characteristic of Ferdinand Victor Leon Roybet (1840-1920), a French School portrait and genre painter who was born in Uzès (Gard) and died in Paris. Roybet received his first training in Lyon, France. He then traveled to Paris where he was a student of Vibert. In the Salon of 1866 he exhibited "Un fou sous Henri III" which was purchased by Princess Mathilde Bonaparte and solidified his career. In 1871 Roybet visited Holland where he studied the works of Rembrandt and Franz Hals. In 1893 he was appointed Chevalier de la Légion de Honneur. His works are in major museums around the world including the Louvre, Metropolitan in NY, Tretiakoff in Moscow, Luxembourg, Boston, Learmont in Montreal, and many others. In very good used condition with minor signs of wear as shown. Please ask questions, request additional photos and shipping costs before buying.
