Rare Japanese Satsuma earthenware vase decorated with geisha and warrior figures. It is painted in shades of red, black and gold and decorated with an unusual draping around the top. Warrior figure decoration was incorporated to Satsuma ware in the late Edo period (1850-1860). The unglazed rim is also characteristic of this period. It is marked on the underside in red characters as shown. Comes with a custom-fitted carved wood base. In good used condition with wear to paint, crackle characteristic of Satsuma and small restoration to earthenware base.
