Extraordinary nautical themed, oval shaped, lidded box. Lid and sides are profusely decorated with ships, anchors and related nautical subjects. It is made with the repousse technique in which the silver is worked on the reverse to form a raised design on the front. It is marked on the underside Germany, a crescent and crown mark, 800 and an unidentified silversmith's initials WS and an H below inside a heart-shaped shield. Germany adopted the "crescent and crown" mark in 1888, accompanied by 800 indicates a fineness of silver of 800/1000. In very good condition with minor signs of wear as shown. Measurements: 4.25" wide, 3.6" deep and 2.4" high including lid (10.5 cm by 9.2 cm by 6 cm) approximately.
