Pair of fine watercolors depicting Les Incroyables, dandies of the Directoire period (1795-99). In terms of fashion, Directoire is a transitional style between Louis XVI and Empire noted for distancing itself from the luxuries of the monarchy. A good example were the gnarled stick canes or "cannes torsadées" that replaced the precious canes of the old regime. Both watercolors are signed G. Galat (one in red and the other faded). In good used condition as shown. Please ask questions, request additional photos and shipping costs before buying.

Measurements: Visible image sitting man: (25.3 cm by 18.9 cm); Visible image standing man: (26 cm by 16.2 cm)

Item ID: 1016
