A large double inkwell with a raised figural fox on an oval platform in silver plate by the well-known firm of James Deakin & Sons. The inkwell sets on four feet in the form winged figural birds. The entire base has a beaded border with floral garland and small stars. The fox stands on an oval base decorated with flowers which has four shell shaped feet that raise it above the base of the inkwell. Two round glass inkwells with bright cut tops are recessed into the base. Finishing off this stunning inkwell, a pen rest in the form of crossed fences seems an appropriate touch. A must for the fox hunting enthusiast!
The inkwell measures 11” long and is 6 ½” wide at the widest point and stands 6” high. The silver plate is in very good condition with minimal surface scratches from use. The only items to note; both inkwells have small cracks. They are not felt from the inside and appear to be stable. I did clean the inkwells and wipe them firmly with considerable pressure. Circa 1900
