Late 18th. Century Mother of Pearl and brass snuff box. Cut panels of luminous pearl surround the box and are framed with brass in a shell and scroll pattern. The lid is lightly engraved and carved in a floral motif.
The box was acquired in England; however, it could be of French origin. The French did make snuff boxes in a wide variety of materials; tortoiseshell, mother of pearl, horn, wood, papier-mache, and stone.
Circa 1795
Condition; good antique condition, the shell has a pinpoint hole, 2 small chips and a hairline crack.
Measurements; 2” in diameter X 1 ¼” high
