An antique English sterling silver faced pocket watch stand or holder fully hallmarked for the assay town of Birmingham. The silver cover is beautifully worked in a flowing Rococo pattern including a cartouche. Included in the design are several areas of pierced lattice work that allow small views of the wood stand below. All other parts of the wood stand are covered in a deep reddish-brown leather.

The stand/holder measures 4 1/2" high X 4" wide and is supported by a back stand. The opening on the silver front is 2 3/8" in diameter, while the opening inside the case (where a watch would rest) is 2 3/4" in diameter.

The silver is in very good antique condition. The raised work has very few dimples or dings. Two catch my eye, one dimple on the cartouche and one dimple on the bottom edge. The box opens and closes with a firm snap and the hinges function well. There are a few worn areas on the leather edges shown in the pictures. The interior does does look a bit tired with part of the raised velvet rim missing. The rim measures 5/16" in depth.

Fully hallmarked for the assay town of Birmingham, sterling, the date letter d for 1903, and makers marks for Henry Matthews.
