A Sterling/Solid Silver Menu Holder in the form of a clipper ship. The menu holder is fully hallmarked for London, 1903 . Please note the careful attention to details with the ship's rigging, sails, and flags. A small piece of the Edwardian Era or La Belle Époque (The Beautiful Era), which covered a very short time span. Today, beautiful objects such as these menu holders that give us a glimpse into the era. It was a time for attention to detail in everything; the dining table was no exception. Add a touch of the Edwardian Era or Belle Époque ( beautiful era) to your dining table The menu holder employs several methods of production. They are stamped and hand chased. The piercing was done at the same time of stamping or possibly done later with the hand chased work. I have two identical clipper ship menu holders; however, each has slight differences due to the hand chasing. The supports are soldered to the main body. Numerical marks are noticeable on the backs of this holder as well as the matching holder. These may be numbers in respect to an inventory. Marks: Lion passant for sterling; leopard’s head for London, date mark for 1903, and maker’s mark for Samuel Chase Condition: good, minor bends to ships masts & flag Size: 1 1/2" x 1 1/8" or 4cm X 2.9
