This is a very Early Black & White steel engraving book plate print entitled "The Market Cart". Engraved by H. Robinson from an Original oil painting by Thomas Gainsborough famous for his Blue Boy. This was published Printed on heavy white stock paper in London Sept 1, 1832 by John Major of 50 Fleet Street. Measurements Page 5 7/8" w x 9.25" Image view 4 7/8" x 6". This is a very different type of picture. It appears to be a very nice black & white watercolor or charcoal portrait. It is signed by 'Horten' at the bottom by the subject to one of his fellow Doctors. It reads: "To my esteemed Colleague & Friend Henry L. Backus, M.D." It is All Original with gallery sticker in place which reads: "Newman Galleries 1732 Chestnut Street Philadelphia".
