18 Kt. Gold Locket with Hand Painted Enamel Violets - Circa 1910

This gold locket is stunning with all of it's hand craftsmanship. Not only is the enamel work hand painted but the surface of the gold is all hand engraved. The work is just superb and done with a masters attention to detail.

The enamel is in excellent condition with no cracks, nicks, chips, deep scratches, nasty abrasions or repairs. With a 10 power loupe you can see two minute flakes, to small to measure, on the surface of the enamel that appear to have been done during the engraving work. I also found a couple minute surface only scratches as expected from use. My 2nd photo of the locket has been over exposed to help show the shading on the violets. On my computer monitor it is a super match.

The gold is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, holes, cracks, scratches, abrasions or repairs. The hinge and bale are the originals without repairs. The locket fits very firmly closed and stays closed. The interior has 2 photo areas and the photo rims are both there. It you put photos into the locket be sure when you remove the rims you keep track of right vs left and top vs bottom. In this time period the rims were hand crafted to fit one way for a firm fit. One photo area has a light plastic cover the other has none.

The marks are located on the lockets top ring that the bale is attached to. The area containing the gold content and makers mark is very blurred due to the bale rubbing across the ring. Rich has acid tested and will guarantee a minimum of 18kt. What appears to be an Austrian assay mark is on the side of the same ring. It's center is also blurred but you can make out the "W" meaning it was made in Vienna. The locket measures 1 3/16 inch in diameter and is approximately 3/16 inches deep. Adding the top ring and bale to the measurements the locket is 1 5/8 inches tall.
