About Us
Twenty three years ago we received a phone call from our daughter in Darmstadt, Germany where her husband was stationed. She told us we were going to be an Oma and Opa to which I said "that's nice, what is it?" She informed us that they were the affectionate names for grandma and grandpa. Hayden is now 22 years old and trying to join the military like his father whom is still active duty. So, when I rented my first antique booth at the "Carousel" in Gainesville, Texas, our hometown, I named our business "Oma's and Opa's Fun to which my husband, Kenneth replied, "just remind me when we're having fun". That was 1998 and we no longer have a booth anywhere except at antique shows we travel to in various states, such as Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Virginia so far.

We were recruited by some dealers called the Flow Blue Brothers and yes they sell Flow Blue. The youngest brother, Doy and Kenneth worked together at Peterbilt Motors in Denton, Texas for 27 years. We finally went to see their merchandise at a show in Market Hall in Dallas and as soon as I walked in I was hooked, Kenneth was scared. The "boys" as I call them have mentored us since then and continue to educate us on all aspects of merchandising, selling, traveling and customer attentiveness. Doy, always gets up and talks to each and every customer that enters his booth and many times been thanked just for that gesture. We try our best to do the same. Paying attention to a customer is very important even if they don't buy something that time because they will come again and the connection has been made as to how they will be treated. We will carry this connection into our shop here at Ruby Lane to the best of our ability.

We had one customer who sent us a card after receiving her shipment and said it was the best shipping she had ever had and we could open a second business anytime. Nah, we're too busy having fun! We have stayed in one of our customers home in College Station because she felt sorry for us staying in motels all the time. It was so nice. Thank you Bonnie.

We hope when you look at our shop you will keep in mind how we searched for the item, hot and cold places, bought it, cleaned it, sometimes had it restored (will be stated in description if done), researched it, priced it, packed it, listed it, and will ship to you. Our merchandise is very important to us because it is not something that can easily be replaced if at all. It's history and how we and you take care of it and appreciate it
is very important. It has a story and we love researching some of those stories and even learning where a certain piece came from and how it got way over here from wherever it was made. Mostly England because we love the work they did. It is beautiful! Thank you for shopping in our shop. Kenneth and Vicki
