Book Piece: Vintage Miriam Haskell Frank Hess WW II Plastic Glass Bow Pin
This unique black & white (this season's colors) pin was created by Miriam Haskell's Frank Hess during WW II when glass bead supplies were short. Hess used what he had at hand and the jewelry became quite collectible. This is a bow pin with white plastic strips separated by black flattened glass spacers. In the center is black & white glass round beads that create the focal of the pin. On the back is a long pierced metal pin that shows the original wiring. As in Haskell style, all the wiring matches in color. The clasp is in fine working order. It measures 3 1/2" long x 1 3/4" wide. This is an unsigned early piece but you can see it in Cathy Gordon's 2004 book "Miriam Haskell Jewelry" on page 147, where she estimates the value at $400 - $500. My price to you is considerably less, making this wonderful piece of history a very good deal. There is an amazing amount of hand work in this pin and it is in very good condition.
