Now, for those of you who are interested in who we are and how we got started, here is a little more about us...
You could say that everything got started because of my love to shop for art on a limited budget. I was always bringing something home from unplanned stops at estate sales local art festivals, online auctions, etc. thrilled with my latest find. For me, nothing is more enjoyable to do with my leisure time than hunting for a great deal on an old treasure.
It wasn't long before my home was full of items from my ventures. My better half asked me what I was going to do with the ever-growing collection when I ran out of space. (A funny, but very valid question at the time.) It was then that the wheels in my head began to turn. I would buy the items, enjoy them for a while, and resell them for others to enjoy, only keeping an occasional item for the long term. Before I knew it, friends of friends were asking me for updates on my finds.
As my knowledge grew, so did my range of items that I looked for. Word of mouth led to an ever growing business and my family and I have recently taken the plunge, pursuing our love of forgotten treasures full time.
My favorite items to offer have always been vintage time pieces, since my previous business was minor watch repair. But I've stumbled into a love for something new as well. In 2010, I was on one of my hunts when I came across an old lamp at a yard sale. The lamp was simple, just a basic desk lamp. I was just planning to use it at my bedside table. Of course, once home, I soon found that the lamp did not work. So, I put on my "Mr. fix it" hat and got to work.
After a few minutes, I had taken a couple of pieces apart and was beginning to think I could convince my family that I knew what I was doing, when I noticed something interesting about the weighted bottom piece I had taken off. In that moment, I became addicted to vintage lamps. I found that the weighted piece was VERY old. This 1940's desk lamp was weighted by s piece that was stamped"1679"
I completely disassembled the entire lamp in an attempt to better understand it's origin and from what I could tell, it had started out as an oil lamp. Over the years, pieces had been added/changed out to keep it current and functional. My boring desk lamp was 300+ years old! I have never looked at lamps the same again. Now, when I look at vintage lighting, my eyes are quickly drawn to the way it was assembled and which parts on the outside do not match the period in which the lamp was said to be from. I have discovered a few more great pieces since then and consider vintage lamps to be pieces of art in their own right. There are many wonderful mysteries yet to be discovered out there and I usually have 10+ lamps to offer at all times.
We are also developing a hand made jewelery line. My better half is very talented and makes beautiful necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc. I am excited to share her pieces in the coming months and I'm confident that many others will share in my enthusiasm when they see what she is capable of.
Thank you very much for your business! We appreciate your patronage and look forward to a long standing business relationship!
