Royal Doulton Art Nouveau Pitcher & Basin Ca1902 - 22K Gold Chrysanthemums

Magnificent Circa 1902, Royal Doulton Basin & Pitcher Set featuring huge scrolling 22K carat gold (tested) Art Nouveau chrysanthemums executed on a milky white square blank. The square blank is quite rare and hard to find - as opposed to the more common round blank. Truly a magnificent set.

The Lion on Crown mark was introduced in 1902 to mark the grant of the Royal Warrant by King Edward VII. The mark changed in 1923. Design D468 was introduced in 1900, according to Royal Doulton records.

John Doulton, A young man of 22, ventured his life-savings of 100 English Pounds on a one-third partnership in an obscure backyard stone-ware pot-house, with two small kilns, in Vauxhall Walk, Lambeth, in what was to evolve into the now world-famous Royal Doulton Group - The year was 1815 the year Napoleon Bonaparte was finally defeated at Waterloo. Today, Royal Doulton is a household name collected worldwide.

The pitcher stands 12-1/4" tall by 8-1/2" at its widest. The basin stands 5" tall - the rim edge measure 16-3/4" by 14-1/2". Overall, the set stands over 13" tall.
