This is a lovely pair of dark navy blue decorative mantle garnitures with brass ormolu finial and handles on footed marble bases. The decorations are hand-painted in gold. Ormulu was popular from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries. The style of the hand-painted decoration, the brass ornamentation and marble bases date these to early 1900s France. As silent butlers go, this is one of the nicest I've ever seen. It is a silver-plate butler from the English Silver Mfg. Corp. of Brooklyn, N.Y. It has an appealing engraving on the lid of a Pegasus adjacent a flag. The lid is hinged with a thumb lever for easy opening. The silent butler is 11" long, including the wooden handle.
