In 1986 doll world notable Mildred Seeley announced her concept for using dolls to promote love in the world. She envisioned the second Saturday of June as being a day to share a doll with a friend or a stranger, child or adult, as a means of promoting understanding among people.
Seeley had long been a driving force within the doll world participating in the growing hobby of doll collecting by sharing information, developing products for doll collecting and doll making enthusiasts, and by promoting the concept of community among collectors.
Today more than ever, the community that she envisioned and supported is bringing fellowship to collectors around the world as we continue to use doll collecting as a means of developing friendship, support and education within the doll world, while reaching out to others in the hope of spreading greater understanding beyond the bounds of our hobby.
As Mildred put it in her first World Doll Day letter, "If you think World Doll Day is a good idea, then appoint yourself a committee of one to do something about it." So, we encourage you to share the fun, spread the love and make the day brighter for someone through the power of dolls!
