Gentle black glass eyes peer sweetly out of the precious face of this circa 1800 English called "Queen Anne Wooden". She is in very excellent condition especially for her age! The set-in glass eyes and curly brunette human hair wig are original. Smooth and lovely with no flaking or crazing, her original pinky-peach paint covers to below the chest, with hand-painted dots-over-line eyebrows, dots surrounding the eyes, bright very rosy cheeks and smiling red mouth. She has not been cleaned because her patina is so wonderful. The unmarked doll is made from an actual spindle using the rounded front for her considerable chest with the back flattened, slits cut for hips have tenon legs pegged to stand or sit (we've not removed her fine cotton lisle stockings because they appear sewn while on her legs). The arms are attached with string through the shoulders and dangle from linen tubes. Hand-carved lower arms, replaced at some point in her past, are quite suitable for her. Lovely antique cotton clothing has every tiny stitch sewn by hand: birds-eye pique dress with hand-made bobbin lace on the sleeves, the chemise is trimmed with hand-stitched eyelet, petticoat has two large tucks, and pantalets have hand-tatted hems. Her fabulous bonnet is starched batiste with hand-made lace and cherry-red silk ribbon, and an embroidered Persian paisley shawl completes this most charming 200-plus-years young lady. (Chair not included).
