San Francisco/Portola Festival Demitasse Spoon - Bachrach - ca. 1909

This Bachrach & Co. silverplate demitasse spoon is in medium condition, with some wear to the plating, seen in photos.

It is a souvenir of the Portola Festival in San Francisco, California, which was held in 1909, as "a grand celebration to declare that San Francisco had rebuilt and was ready for business and tourists after the 1906 earthquake and fire." (from SF Public Library site)

Engraved with great detail inside the bowl are a woman holding grapes, some farm animals and a two story building, with embossed 'CALIFORNIA' above. On the handle is embossed the face of Don Gaspar de Portola, Governor of the California's, both Baja and Alta from 1767-1790, with 'PORTOLA' below. Embossed down the neck is 'SAN FRANCISCO, OCT.19-23.'

Makers mark says 'Bachrach & Co. S.F.' on reverse of neck. Measures 4 1/4" long, bowl is 1" wide.
