'Done in the Open, Drawings by Frederic Remington, with an Introduction and Verses by Owen Wister and Others'. Published by P. F. Collier & Son, New York, MCMIII. (Dykes, Remington #333) Condition Fair. No dust jacket.
The pictorial boards are worn, stained and water damaged, cloth backstrip on spine is torn at bottom, and front board has separated. There is light water damage to bottom and right corner of pages. Pages are lightly tanned on edges, and are tightly bound. Please see photos.
Previous owner's inscription as a gift on front free endpaper, dated 1947, but it has been scribbled out in pencil, strangely.
The 77 plates and numerous little sketches are just fine, though! The spine could be fixed fairly easily, and the front board reattached. In center of the book is a two-page color depiction of 'Caught in the Circle: the last stand of three troopers and a scout overtaken by a band of hostile Indians'. There are several b&w two-page works also.
Owen Wister was also the author of the mother of all westerns, 'The Virginian'.
Measures 11 1/2" by 16 1/2" - Folio size.
