Split Bamboo fly fishing rod by South Bend, 3 piece, 2 tips, original tube and sock, assembled length is 9 feet. One of Many listed.
It would make a great Steel Head or Salmon rod, casts well with an 7 weight line. Never overload a bamboo rod with a D.T.[double Taper] fly line. The bamboo sections are as straight as an arrow, NO cracks, splits or delamination in the cane. Agate stripper guide on the butt section. Perfect South bend label which is photographed and marked 9-24 which is not the date the rod was made. The 9 is for 9 Foot in length and the 24 is the model of the rod Line rating is HCH or C. Clean cork handle with no damage,Not sanded, good comfort grip with label. Up-locking reel seat is perfect. All four sections are equal original length. All wraps and snake guides are excellent. The wraps were sealed with two coats of Spar Varnish, they were starting to dry out. The sections fit together properly and pop when pulled apart.
When I purchased the fly rod the female ferrule on the butt section had some tape on it. When removed I noticed a very good repaired. The cracked ferrule was silver soldered, reinforced at the base with copper wire and the ferrule was seated properly. All I did was wrap it and seal the wraps . I have cast the rod with a 7WF floating line and there is no clicking of feel of a problem. This is a very good repair should not present any problems in the future. This is the only negative with this near perfect rod.
I have a large selection of fly rods and reels, Creels,Fly Wallets, and other fly fishing items See photos.
