Inlaid mantel or desk clock, retailed by Tiffany, made in France, One of 70 Antique Clocks to choose from see last photo for some other Inlaid clocks. 100% original, MINT restored condition. Size: 9 1/2" X 5 1/2" X 2 3/4" deep. The dial diameter is 3 1/2". The solid mahogany wood case is inlaid with walnut, satin wood, ebony and pear wood. The original French polish finish is spectacular, NO damage to any of the inlay, a minor rub to the finish on the left side. All brass was polished and lacquered. The solid brass dial which was silvered and painted is original to the clock as is the convex glass crystal, hands, rear dust cover and jeweled platform escapement movement. The round French movement was professionally restored. It is a week duration time piece, without chime. It comes with a key for winding. The movement was disassembled, cleaned, pivots were polished, new bronze bushings were installed, lubricated and adjusted for one month. The jeweled platform escapement was also disassembled, cleaned, balance staff had one new pivot installed, both pallets were replaced, hair spring straightened and demagnetized. The clock is now a very strong and reliable running clock. We have several inlaid clocks listed that we acquired from the same collection. For general information, the work performed on the platform escapement alone was at the billable rate of $250. There are not too many of us left that have the knowledge and equipment to do this type of quality restoration work.

A SIDE NOTE: To assist you in purchasing a good Antique Clock. Saying the restoration work was performed and actually performing the restoration work by a knowledgeable clockmaker are two different issues. The vast percentage of old clocks have a great deal of wear and should be completely disassembled for cleaning. This is the only way one can inspect for wear and then eliminate all the friction created by the wear. The latest is the clock was "Professionally Cleaned", this means absolutely nothing. Simply dumping the clock movement into a can of Carburetor cleaner to wash off the dirt will not eliminate years of wear. Yes the clock may run for a few months with a healthy dose of WD-40. This is not proper clock servicing. Questions you need to ask these on-line Bodgers, is the clock or watch movement original to the case, what has been replaced and has the clock movement been properly restored and get this information in writing. When the terms such as "Good Running Order", "Running", "Runs Great" generally means the clock is not keeping time and probably will not, this also means it has not been properly restored. Therefore you will need to spend several hundred dollars to have the clock put right. These few tips will save you some serious problems and money.
