Cat Prints Chessy Series Set of 3 Chesapeak & Ohio Railroad Advertising
One of my all time favorite things – as you must know by now – are cats. I have had this set of three Chessy prints put away forever because I couldn't part with them! The prints are entitled – Chessy as we found her – Chessy and her first family – Peak Chessy's old man. The prints measure 15 3/8"w x 13 5/8"h and are in exceptionally fine condition in simple black frames. And now I will give you a little bit of what I know about this advertisement: the original etching of the sleeping kitten was executed by a German animal painter and draftsmen – Gruenwald. He was born 1894 in Berlin and studied there under W.H. Deffke, E. Hertwig and K. Klimsch. He had numerous exhibitions in Germany. The painter is listed in H. Vollmer "Lexikon." The Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad VP Lion Probert noticed this picture of a sweet sleeping kitten in the New York Herald Tribune, next to an article on kindness to animals. Mr. Probert purchased the likeness for $5, from Mr. Gruenwald and used it in the C&O Advertising "sleep like a kitten."
