Antique Authentic African Mask Chokew People Angola

African Mask Chokew People of Angola. This stunning carved wood and woven grease fabric mask. I believe it is called the Mukanda men’s initiation mask. Legend has it that the mask represents a woman but worn primarily by men in male circumcision rights. The scarification mark on the forehead is called a cingelyengelye. The mask is in exceptionally fine condition and shows tremendous signs or skill, great craftsmanship and artistry. Good signs of age – completely hand made. It has a very nice built up patina on the wood carving. Take a good look and you will see all of the facial features with superior distinct details. It measures 11 ½” at highest x 6 ½” at widest x 10 ½” at deepest (overall).Circa early 1900's. Striving For Excellence It isn’t brilliance or just getting the breaks, It is consistent attention to & honest respect for the Customer.
