USS George Washington Book The Hatchet
THE HATCHET of the USS George Washington. This book was compiled by Captain Edward T. Pollock, U.S. Navy and Lieut. (J.G.) Paul F. Bloomhardt Chaplain Corps. U.S. Navy. Copyright 1919 - first edition March 1919, second edition April 1919. It reads “The net proceeds from the sale of this book are to be used for the relief of widows and orphans of enlisted men of the Navy, and are to be handled by the NAVY RELIEF SOCIETY, WASHINGTON, D.C., from whom copies of the book can be obtained. Price $2.00.” This book is printed by J.J. Little & Ives Co., New York. The book has blue cloth boards with embossed cover with a picture of the USS George Washington. This is a super interesting book; it has more than several fabulous illustrations and is more of a chronology and collaboration of newspaper clippings about the USS. This book is a history book and diary with daily life in print with almost everything that happen on this ship, every where they went, every person on board – if you like nautical history and ships in particularly this is the book to have. It is inscribed on the inside cover “To Ed and Edith Weston with a keen appreciation of many kindness and good times to me and to mine during the days in 1917 and 1918 when the George Washington was ‘putting them across’” signed Fredericks Pyne? Commander Supply Boys, U.S. Navy. It measures 9 ¾” x 8 ¼” x 1”.
