Antique reference book entitled American Glass by George S. and Helen McKearin. Copyright, 1941, by Crown Publishers. Published also by Crown Publishers, New York. There is writing on the inside cover in ink that reads ‘Beverly with love, non-legible, Maggie, Chuck & Gail 1942. There is also a personal library sticker on the inside cover. The contents include Glass- its properties and early production, glassmaking and ornamentation, early American blown and patter-molded glass, 17th-18th century American glass houses and their products, 19th glass and glass houses, blown three mold glass, early pressed glass (lacy and non-lacy), pressed tablewares-pattern glass, free-blown and pattern molded bottles and flasks, pictorial and historical flasks. There is also a glossary and index. There are 262 illustrations that consist of pattern-molded glass, South Jersey Tradition, various illustrations of Stiegel type glass, Pittsburgh types, New England, New York, rare historical cup plates, lamps, and portrait flasks to name only a few. There are 622 pages plus introduction and contents. The measurements of this book are 10 ¾” x 8 ½” x 1 7/8”. The book is in very good condition with an apricot colored cloth over board cover and black embossing on the front cover and spine for the title. The spine has become slightly detached form the binding but it is still intact and the binding itself is tight and clean. The pages are all in very good condition with a very slight minute brown tinge to them All in all a great reference book – full of everything you would want to know or would need to know about American Glass!
