Frank M. Whiting began his business in 1896. He previously worked with his father at Whiting Manufacturing but decided to branch out on his own. He produced a wide variety of beautiful Sterling products including flatware, table, and household ware. In 1940, his company became a division of Ellmore Silver Company and in 1960 Ellmore closed. This is a matching pair of dual purpose candlestick holders/compotes. The scalloped glass bowls are in forest green and are threaded to fit down into the candlestick holders. By removing the glass, the holders could be used for candle presentation. These are marked Sterling by F. M. Whiting Company, Weighted and Reinforced #2074. This set has the w mark in the circle so this set would be prior 1940. The set including the glass top are 5 1/4 inches high and are just under 6 inches in diameter. The candlesticks are in need of a jeweler's buffing. There are some impressed dings in the silver top and bottom that I have tried to display in the pictures. These are an elegant vintage set that display nicely with the vivid green glass.
