ANTIQUE Sterling Silver Sidesaddle Stirrup. Rare early hand made 900 Silver Sidesaddle stirrup with deep repousse'. Please refer to all the pictures.
A nineteenth century silver stirrup from Latin America. Such slipper stirrups were used by women riding sidesaddle. The upper slipper part of this stirrup has good cast decoration of peacock, grape and leaf pattern. the metal is quite thick. The footplate of the slipper is hand chased with wheat, flower patterns & a rope design border. The arch of the stirrup also has cast decoration, (floral pattern).. The suspension loop is attached to the arch by a clasped hand design. The stirrup can still swing from the arch. Strangely for such a well made piece of plateria criolla this stirrup is not stamped or marked with a makers name. Dimensions : approx. 5" tall 9,5" length approx. 6" width. Weight : 19.3 troy ounces. Tested 900 silver. Circa: 1880's /1889's. EXCELLENT PRE-OWNED CONDITION. Light scratches in bottom. Please ask all questions. Our staff is here for you.
