Rockport House & Harbor W/C-1962-Frank Zuccarelli

This is a 4 x 5 3/4 inch watercolor entitled on the back "Motif #1 Massachusetts Rockport" and dated on the back brown paper 1-17-62.On the back of the painting it is dated 01-17-62 also in the hand of the artist who was listed New Jersey artist Frank Zuccarelli.With the frame it measures 10 1/2 by 12 1/4 inches.It is in excellent condition. The photos tell the story. The glass will be taped for shipping to prevent it shattering.

Born in 1921 in Olyphant, Pa., and raised in Bound Brook, N.J., Frank Zuccarelli lived in New Brunswick, N.J., before moving to Somerset,N.J. in 1961.

Frank received his formal art education at Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts and his B.A. from Kean University. He was named a "master pastelist" by the Pastel Society of America and was a member of the Salmagundi Club, American Artists Professional League, Allied Artists, and the Hudson Valley Art Association. His paintings have appeared in numerous publications and have been exhibited nationally as well as in Canada, France, Italy, Russia, and China.

Zuccarelli had done extensive work for the U.S. Navy Combat Art Collection inWashington, D.C., receiving the Louis E. Seley NACAL Gold Medal for outstanding achievement in oil painting as one of his many awards. In 1975, he participated in the Apollo-Soyuz splashdown and recovery by providing numerous paintings and sketches while aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. New Orleans. His paintings for the Navy were done through the Salmagundi Club in New York. Zuccarelli served as the official artist of the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1981. In November 1997, he was asked to visit China as an exchange of artists from the Pastel Society of America. Mr. Zuccarelli was a descendant of the 18th century artist Francisco Zuccarelli, one of the founding fathers of the British Royal Academy whose paintings now hang at the Windsor Castle and major museums in England and Italy. Mr. Zuccarelli was inducted into the Bound Brook High School Hall of Fame in the fall of 2003.

He is listed in Who's Who in American Art, and the 16th Edition Dictionary of International Biography, Volume XI, and there is a Frank E. Zuccarelli Collection in the Library of Congress.

He died in 2012.
