Jan Gary was born in Fort Worth, Texas and now resides in Bayonne, New Jersey where she lived with her husband artist William Gorman until he died in 2002. She is a member of Audubon Artists, National Society of Women Artists, National Society of Painters in Casein, Painters and Sculptors Society of New Jersey, Association Artists of New Jersey, New Jersey Watercolor Society and Professional Artists of South Jersey . She has exhibited her work throughout the United States, Canada, England, and Scotland. Her awards include Childe Hassam Fund Purchase Prize, American Academy of Arts and Letters; Purchase Prize Butler Institute of Amerian Art; Agnes Noyes Prize from New Jersey Water Color Society; Janet Berne Memorial Prize from National Association of Women Artists; Grumbacher Purchase Award and named Jersey Journal Woman of Achievement.
