Potthast Inlaid Mahogany Cabinet Cupboard, Early 20th Century

Item # 1408IVU10P

A positively gorgeous cabinet executed by one of the finest furniture firms of the 20th Century, this cabinet remains in a simply outstanding state of preservation. The demilune top projects over the conforming case, a single drawer set in the center of the top. This is inlaid in a row with hanging drapery, the drawer easily sliding in and out of the case, the back of the drawer exhibiting hand dovetails and the inside of the drawer deeply branded with the mark of Potthast. The door of the cabinet is edged in cockbead molding around the crosshatched grounds, the center of the door with a complex urn. This opens to reveal a single shelf. The whole cabinet rests over bulbous turned and reeded legs.

Potthast furniture is some of the most highly regarded furniture of their era and their objects are becoming collectable in their own right. This is an outstanding selection for anyone passionate about classical forms, specifically those decorating in a Federal or American Classical taste.
