AMERICAN MAHOGANY SLANT FRONT LETTER BOX, Mid 19th Century
Item # 1401DPM18PP
A highly attractive yet utterly simple work, this functional little box is crafted of solid mahogany primary woods. It has been preserved with utmost care, the surface very dark and oxidized beneath layers of old wax to result in a deep patination. The slant front lid retains it's original brass hinges, lifting easily to rest on two supports that swing out on their original screws to support the lid. This reveals a small letter area with three pigeon-holes with scalloped dividers. It remains in exceptional condition.
Measurements: 15 7/16" wide x 9 3/4" deep x 6 7/8" high
Condition Report: Original finish under layers of wax. Heavily worn and oxidized surface, overall nearly black with numerous minor blemishes. Original hinges. Light surface splinter on left side (top left corner).
