American Federal Miniature Chest or Document Box, probably Pennsylvania c. 1790-1810

American Federal Dovetailed Cherry Document Box, probably Pennsylvania, c. 1790-1810

Item # 130002UWP16

This is a simply stunning piece, an entirely original and undisturbed American Federal Dovetailed Document Box, crafted in the form of a Miniature Blanket Chest, probably in Pennsylvania c. 1790-1810. Crafted of solid cherry, the chest still retains it's original dry and heavily oxidized surface, the patina being carefully preserved throughout and making this antique document box incredibly charming. The rectangular top is framed with molding on all four edges, pinned on with evenly spaced wooden pegs, projecting just slightly over the square form of the dovetailed box. It lifts on original brass hinges, each with untouched hand forged screws, to reveal a clean interior with a tiny hand forged nail still retained on the left side where it used to connect to an opposing nail with a cord to prop the lid open.

Resting over a molded bracket footed base, this likewise pinned to the sides with evenly spaced tiny wooden pegs, the box has great presence. It is an exceedingly attractive piece in an untouched condition that is becoming very difficult to find - this is a piece you will cherish in your collection for a lifetime, an investment grade antique for serious collectors of Americana.

Measurements: 13 1/16" w x 7 1/8" d x 6 3/8" h
