Fine Malayer Caucasian Antique Rug, Late 19th Century
Item # 120002KBU24
This wonderful authentic antique Malayer Rug is circa the last quarter of the 19th Century. It is a fine piece woven with a bold blue border backed against a solid red border, each laced with floral motifs framing a geometrical hooked border with tan and cream grounds. The center of the rug is a repeating array of geometrical patterns, each interlinked with a wonderful complexity that is both visually wonderful and stimulating to the eye. It has a worn low pile, bringing the clarity of the design to the forefront, while still being in quite good condition. With numerous repairs (catalogued in the slideshow), it must be enjoyed with some care, but overall it is structurally sturdy enough for regular use for a lifetime. For anyone passionate about antique Malayer rugs, this is a fine addition to any collection; while having a large profile to span as a runner in a broad hallway, it is mutually substantial enough to be a room size rug down the center of a large room.
Measurements: Approximately 4' x 9' (exactly 109 3/4" long x 56 1/4" wide)
Condition Report: Soft and pliable, delightful wear, warm deep colors, repairs: Light fading where the rug was probably folded. A number of repairs, each fully catalogued in the image slideshow. Numerous areas of in-stitching here and there, with good closeups in the slideshow. Wefts and warps showing through due to low pile and even wear. Good overall color preservation. No pet or smoke smells, and no visible stains.
