Antique Jackfield Miniature Teapot with Acanthus Leaf Decoration
Mint condition Jackfield pottery miniature or child's size teapot with raised classical designs on the body including acanthus leaves on the lower 1/2 and spout. Jackfield is a term for a type of pottery first made in Jackfield, in Shropshire, England at a ceramics factory founded by Richard Thursfield produced earthenware with the characteristic glossy black glaze beginning in 1713. It was later made at various factories in Staffordshire and became popular again when Queen Victoria went into mourning for her husband Prince Albert in 1861. It was produced throughout the 18th & 19th centuries. No marks. This teapot retains its original lid probably dates to the 1st 1/2 of the 19th century. It stands 2 5/8" tall and 5 3/8" across handle & spout. A little gem in pristine condition.
