Beautiful porcelain figure entitled The Opium Smoker by Arno Malinowski for Royal Copenhagen. Malinowski worked at Royal Copenhagen as a sculptor from 1921 to 1935. He created 11 models which were available in blanc-de-chine and overglaze painted. His overglaze pieces have a style unmatched by any of the other Royal Copenhagen sculptors, both in his choice of unique subject matter and his signature palette of overglaze brown and gold on an otherwise undecorated surface. At the 1925 Paris Exhibition received distinction for his group of works, the best known of which is The Opium Smoker. This figure is in mint condition. It stands 5.5" tall. This piece bears the Juliane Marie mark which is reserved for the overglaze painted figures and dates to the 1930s.
