Stereoview shows part of the parapet of Fort Sumpter. At left of image you can see a horizontal row of wooden spikes projecting over the edge of the steep drop to the water below, obviously to help prevent a troop assault. Foreground has a cannon half protected by Gabion baskets, while background shows Gabion baskets used as a retaining wall / ramp for the cannon in the background. Morris island is the faded lines in distant background. Front left edge says: Entered According to Act of Congress, in the year 1865, by John P. Soule, in the clerk's office of the District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Back says: War Views, ~ Published By ~ John P.
