Rare Victorian Buff Top Sapphire & Old Mine Cut Diamond Ring 18k
Sapphires were popular in the Victorian era - the stone represented prosperity - and continues to be popular today. This particular 1.5 Carat Ceylon Buff Top stone is domed and smooth on the top. But unlike Cabochon stones - Buff Top stones are not smooth on the bottom - they are faceted. And this Buff Top Sapphire has been expertly faceted to allow the light to reflect from within the stone creating a beautiful blue array of light and movement when the ring is worn. There is one inclusion that is visible to the naked eye, but when worn isn't noticeable at all as well as some very minor surface wear and nibbles (only noticeable under magnification).
The Sapphire is accented by 1.25 Carats of Old Mine Cut Diamonds that have incredible depth and sparkle. The Diamonds range in color from J/K to M/N SI2. All stones are encased in a rich 18k Yellow Gold - enhancing the vibrancy of the stones. This ring is truly mesmerizing!
US ring size 8. Ring measures 9/16" (north / south) by 1/2" (east / west). Weight of ring is 4.9 grams (3.1 dwt). The ring is not stamped but tests 18 Karat. The ring was resized at one point and the jeweler used 14 Karat Yellow Gold instead of 18 Karat Yellow Gold at the base of the shank - but this is not noticeable when the ring is worn and does not detract from the ring's beauty one bit. There is also one prong that is bent. Please see photos for reference on both these points. All carat and color measurements are approximate since stones are not removed from their mountings.
