This porcelain vessel is by renowned mid-20th century studio ceramicist Rose Cabat and is one of her signature "feelies", so named because they are palm sized and have wonderfully tactile glazes. Along with her late husband, Cabat developed innovative glazes that feel silky to the touch. The forms of feelies are often describes as resembling onions and figs. The vase has a exquisite brilliant turquoise glaze with russet/tan drips and shades darker towards the bottom with hints of lapis blue beneath the turquoise.
The Tucson Museum of Art is mounting a solo exhibit, "Rose Cabat at 100: A Retrospective Exhibition of Ceramics" from 2/1/14-9/14/2014 in honor of Cabat turning 100 in 2014. Several examples with the same glaze as this vessel are shown on the Tucson Museum's website.
