It's not often that one can describe a piece of Egyptian Revival jewelry as goofy but this micromosaic scarab fits that description. I think it's because the maker made the eyes and wings slightly off-center so, instead of being dramatic and serious like most Egyptian Revival jewelry, this brooch is cute and slightly humorous - kind of a pet scarab. And the eyes, while made of art glass, almost look like googly eyes.
Size: 1-3/4" wingspan
Age: Early to mid-20th century. There have been many Egyptian revivals since the 19th century and I can't exactly date this pin. The pin back, however, has a "safety pin" style catch that tends to be used in jewelry from the earlier part of the century.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. Some gold plating has worn off in places.
Item ID: LK3742
