I've never seen anything like this brooch. The hummingbird and flower are rendered in a myriad of colors of glass mosaic. The tesserae are very thin - like that of fine antique micromosaics - but also long which gives the piece a modern feel. Which raises the question of dating: since I have never seen micromosaic work like this I can't really date it accurately, but it has a modern feel and my guess is that is comes out of the studio jewelry movement of the 70's or 80's.
The brooch is unsigned but clearly made by someone with a great deal of talent. It tests as 800 silver. It is 1-1/2" x 1-1/2".
This would be a great piece for someone who collect micromosaic jewelry since it is rare to find modern pieces that hold up next to the fine antique ones.
