This purse exemplifies the best of Whiting and Davis mesh purses: an outstanding two-sided Art Deco enameled frame with marcasites; a beautifully colored and patterned dresden mesh pouch; a chain handle with enameled links; and a design in which the frame and mesh complement each other perfectly.
The spring green and brown of the frame and chain handle are repeated in the purse enameling with yellow, fuchsia, and pink added on the mesh for a pop of color. The colors are like garden flowers bursting from the earth and foliage. The colorful pattern on the mesh is abstract and like a Rorschach test. Every time I look at it I see a different vision in its pattern: a pair of peacocks with purple heads, dancing girls with tiered hoop skirts, a garden path with trees in the distance. You can use your imagination!
