Magnificent natural baroque pearls highlight this sweet Georgian mourning pin that is is in the form of a leaf. The glass crystal compartment contains remnants of hair and the back contains the inscription "In Memory" with the name obscured by the later addition of a stick pin. The pin tests as 12 carat gold.
Size: 1" wide x 9/16" high plus 1-5/8" additional for stick pin
Age: Late 18th or early 19th century
Marks: "In Memory" and "Jr" with the rest of the name obscured.
Condition: Very good vintage condition for age. The top surface of the brooch is in excellent condition: the pearls are in excellent condition and appear to all be original since the settings conform tightly to their irregular shapes; the settings are in excellent condition; and the glass compartment appears to be original. The back has some scars in the gold where the original pin back and clasp were located.
