About the artist:
Mendoza was born in Mexico City February 3, 1952. He spent his childhood in Tonála Chiapas, a place where he traces his roots back to and draws his artistic inspiration from. Mendoza inherited his artistic ability from his grandfather but perfected his technique under the tutelage of José Sámano Torres and at institutions such as Centro Docente de Grabado del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes and Taller de Grafica Popular.
Mexican art is his primary influence but colonial architecture and the Mexican landscape also inspire him. Mendoza's style is realistic and his work reflects the subtleties of light and shadow, the wonder of architecture at its simplest, the beauty of a balcony imbued by the magic of sunlight. His pieces are acrylic on canvas or oil on wood.
Mendoza has participated in over 100 exhibits in Mexico and his work can be found at several galleries in Mexico City, Spain and the United States, and also in private collections. One of the crowning moments in his career as an artist has been the inclusion of his work in a book honoring the anniversary of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX). The artist currently resides in Mexico City with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
