Jo Lathwood Mixed Media Collage on board "Owl"; Framed 18.75 x 15 inches ; Image 13.5 x 10 inches composed of paint, newspaper clippings, torn writings, and what appears to be wrapping paper. Highly unique skillfully rendered.
condition: Excellent. No damage noted. In the case where the paper lifts off the board it appears as a feather and so in my opinion was intended as such.
Jo Lathwood established a custom boutique at Malibu Beach in 1938. She gained fame as a designer of the first bikinis and other sportswear for Saks, Neiman Marcus, and members of the film colony. An inveterate traveler, she made trips each year to the South Pacific where she painted many watercolors of the native people and their activities. She died in Santa Monica on August 20, 1987.
