Buzz Fuzz Character Jug | Royal Doulton England | Toby Jug Med. D5838

An early and unusually sized, medium, character jug/ toby mug of Buzz Fuzz. The jug was designed by Leslie Harradine and Harry Fenton and hand-painted painted in England. It was issued between 1948 -1960 and is numbered D5838.

This is an excellent example of the literary character designs of early character jugs. In Dickens' Pickwick Papers, Sergeant Buzz-fuzz was the counsel of Mrs. Bardell in the breach of promise suit she brought against Mr. Pickwick.

Buzz Fuzz stands approximately 5 inches tall (Medium) and is in superb condition with no chips or cracks. He has fine crazing in a number of places noticeable on close inspection (expected on early Doulton pieces).

He is listed on page 64 of A Century of Royal Doulton Character & Toby Jugs, and in The Royal Doulton Jugs Charlton Standard Catalogue on page 122. Listed book value of $200

A delightful vintage classic.
