Rip Van Winkle Character Jug | Royal Doulton England | Toby Jug Large

A large Royal Doulton Character Jug / Toby Mug of Rip Van Winkle. It was designed by Geoff Blower and hand-painted in England. This jug numbers D6438 and was issued between 1960 -1991.

In 1820, the American writer Washington Irving wrote the story of Rip Van Winkle, based on legends he had heard from Dutch settlers. While walking in the Catskill Mountains of New York, Rip drinks a fairy potion, falls asleep for 20 years and wakes to find an unrecognizable world.

He is approximately 7 1/2 inches tall and is in superb condition with no crazing, cracks or chips.

Rip Van Winkle is listed on page 272 of A Century of Royal Doulton Character & Toby Jugs, and in The Royal Doulton Jugs Charlton Standard Catalogue on page 318. Listed book value of $150.
